"Sitting on the porch, my son said, 'Daddy, come play my video game with my super heroes.' And he said, 'What super hero should I be?'" said Jones. "He said, 'But you can't be you. You can't be the Baltimore submission machine.' And I was saying to myself, 'Wow, my son just called me his super hero.' I said, 'You know, it's time to go back to work.'" IBJJF Dallas Open of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Results | Columbia Mixed ...

A few members of the Crazy 88 Brazilian JiuJitsu Competition team flew out to the Lone Star State to take part in the last IBJJF competition before the World Championships. The team consisted of Coach Julius Park, seasoned-competitor Tye Ryan Murphy, and two relative rookies – Alexandria “Malibu” Welch and Larissa “Hamburguer” Zwanenburg.

Malibu and Hamburguer arrived first to Texas and enjoyed the resort scene until the evening when they had to pick up Tye Ryan and Julius from the airport. This was the first time Malibu was on mommy duty and she performed admirably – not losing Hamburguer to any tourist groups nor crashing her sky-blue automobile while texting.

The ladies were fairly close to weight and had a scare with the unpredictable scale at the hotel.

Check out the video below…

was the leadoff man for Crazy 88 and he did not disappoint, winning Gold in the Middleweight Blue Belt division. Tye had one of the most stressful weigh-in experiences in school history… they made him change out of his Keiko gi (the same gi that had been worn for the last 2 IBJJF competitions including the Pan Ams) and then made him weigh in on a second scale after he had made weight on the first scale. Tye was on weight on the test scale, .5 over on the 2nd “real” scale, and .5 under on the 1st “real” scale. The ring coordinator tried to DQ him until another one came over and allowed him through. Phew!

That was probably the toughest minutes of the competition for Ty; after a narrow advantage win in the first round, Tye defeated his next three opponents with submissions and double-digit point victories.

competed in the Female White Belt Light Feather division. Malibu is doing better and better every tournament and has made huge strides especially with her guard work and composure. The first match went right along to plan with Malibu getting her positions and scoring multiple advantages for locking on triangles. The finals went pretty much the opposite way – absolute worst case scenarios all around. Malibu ended up taking Silver but that Gold is on its way soon.

, the youngest member of the Crazy 88 Competition Travel squad, also took Silver. Although this was the same placement she had earned at the New York BJJ Open, Larissa played a much more open game here. She had her first opponent locked in a submission within 30 seconds and was winning the Finals 2-0 until the last 30 seconds when she made a silly guard pull error that allowed her opponent to pass immediately and win 3-2. Hamburguer has been training hard and is making that 1% improvement everyday so expect to see her on the top of the podium soon.
